Roger Federer was just 28 when his wife Mirka gave birth to twins Myla and Charlene . In a recent interview at a Uniqlo event, the Swiss champion said he was surprised that his career continued so brilliantly despite fatherhood.
“I didn’t think I would be able to play tennis with kids, it wasn’t in my vision when I was younger. My dream as a kid was maybe to win the title at Wimbledon and see my parents in the stands. And then all of a sudden you have a beautiful wife and four kids looking up at you, along with your parents and friends,” Federer said.
The 37-year-old from Basel also spoke about rising Japanese star Naomi Osaka , winner of this year’s US Open. “When you are as talented as Naomi, you improve every day. I also try to improve every day, or at least I try.
But in Naomi’s case, it’s obvious that you grow a lot just by playing matches, training, and sharing the court with other great players. I’m sure she’s just at the beginning of her maturation journey.”
Let’s remember that Federer’s 2019 will begin for the third year in a row at the Hopman Cup, taking place in Perth (perhaps for the last time) from December 30 to January 5.
