Roger Federer has been the big star of the last 20 years of tennis. The most beloved tennis player, the most celebrated, who only a few days ago decided to say goodbye to the game. The Swiss, author of several career records and a twenty-time Grand Slam event winner, also announced somewhat surprisingly that he will retire in a few days.
His last challenge on the tennis courts will be the Laver Cup which will feature some of the greatest tennis players in the world. Through his social networks Roger Federer wrote a letter where he greeted all his fans. Here, specifically, are some of his words: “To my tennis family and beyond.
Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest is, without a doubt, that of introducing me to people during the path: my friends, my opponents and above all the fans. Today, I want to share some news with you.
As everyone knows, the past three years have been a challenge for me in the form of injuries. I worked hard to get back, but my body sent me clear messages. Tennis has treated me better than I ever dreamed of, but I have to recognize the moment to end my professional career.
The Laver Cup in London next week will be my last ATP tournament. I will no longer participate in Grand Slams or tour tournaments. This was a bittersweet decision to make, because I will miss everything the tennis world has given me.”
Roger Federer risks losing Wimbledon record
The tournament that made all tennis fans fall in love with Roger Federer is undoubtedly the Wimbledon tournament, the Grand Slam that Roger has won several times: he is the record holder, in front of William Renshaw, Pete Sampras and Novak Djokovic.

With 8 victories, Roger Federer is the tennis player in history who has achieved the most success on London grass-courts, amazing the crowd of the Centre Court for almost 20 years. And yet his record is far from solid.
Serbian champion Novak Djokovic won the seventh Wimbledon of his career this year and as early as next year he will target Roger’s record to try to reach it and maybe in the future to surpass it. Federer retired as king of Wimbledon but his record is far from certain.
