Shortly after the world number one golfer secured his second Masters green jacket, there was a new arrival in the Scheffler household.
“Welcome to the world little one. Your mom & dad love you so much.” Those were the words that Scottie Scheffler wrote on his Instagram post on Monday along with a photo of him cradling his new baby boy in his
arms. The gorgeous bundle of joy clearly had an immediate impact on the 27-year-old, one that every parent can relate to, and the timing of the birth couldn’t have been better.
Scheffler senior’s conclusion of the Masters was at risk, as wife Meredith going into labor was always going to be the priority. “I wouldn’t say I’m very concerned,” he said about the situation while at Augusta, before adding that there were “open lines of communication and she can get ahold of me if she needs to.”
As it turned out, the world number one went on to claim his second green jacket, followed that up with the RBC Heritage title, and then welcomed his son. And the name bestowed upon him: Bennett.
What are the origins of the name Bennett?
The name Bennett – which did not appear in the US top ten – has its roots traced back to the Medieval era, a modern variation of ‘Benedict’, so explains Keshia at The Bump. This boy’s name, of Latin descent, carries within it the promise of good fortune and divine favor. “Blessed” is not merely a label but a proclamation of destiny,
echoing the Latin benedictus, which itself harbors deeper connotations. Delve into its etymology, and you’ll uncover bene, the essence of “good,” and dicte, the art of “speaking well.”
Bennett, therefore, encapsulates not just luck but eloquence – a name fit for those destined to articulate greatness. Maybe a good choice then for the son of a sporting superstar.
